Supporting a Broker When Time Was Against Them

When a supporting broker received a motor fleet presentation on the afternoon the existing policy was due to expire, there was very little time to find an alternative insurer.

The client, a haulage and waste recycling business in Hampshire, wanted to move to a new insurer. The broker turned to Century, knowing how our underwriting team works and confident that we would respond quickly.

Within a matter of hours, the risk had been reviewed, terms agreed and the business placed.

A 12-Vehicle Haulage and Waste Fleet

The business operates a 12-vehicle fleet supporting its haulage and waste recycling activities.

The fleet comprises a range of vehicles from 3.5-tonne to 32-tonne lorries. Its claims history also included a large loss recently.

But the biggest challenge on this occasion was time.

The broker had only received the presentation themselves at the last minute, on the afternoon of the existing policy’s expiry. The client was clear that they wanted a new insurer, leaving the broker with only a matter of hours to secure an alternative solution and support their client.

A Broker That Knew Century Would Respond

Rather than approaching Century because other markets had declined the risk, the broker came directly to us because of their existing experience of working with our underwriters.

As an established broker with a long standing relationship with Century, when faced with the late presentation, they knew they could approach our team and expect a prompt response to support them.

Century reviewed the submission and turned the case around within a few hours, allowing the broker to secure the required cover before the end of the day.

From Last-Minute Presentation to Placed Business

The result was straightforward but important: the broker was able to respond to their client’s last-minute requirement, the client secured a new insurer, and Century picked up the order.

The broker was particularly pleased with the positivity of Century’s approach and the speed of the response.

For brokers, that responsiveness can make a significant difference – when a risk arrives unexpectedly late or even when your clients just simply expect a quick resolution. Sometimes the value of an underwriting relationship is simply knowing that when the clock is against you, there is someone at the other end who will look at the risk and give you an answer.
